Bertha Sandoval Obituary

Bertha Sandoval

1938 - 2018

BERTHA SANDOVAL was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco on the 5th of January, 1938 to Juan and Rosalina. She was the second oldest of ninesiblings, and the first to migrate to the U.S.. At the young age of eighteen, Bertha began working as a caregiver in New York City, paving the way for the majority of her siblings to join her in the States. Like most people who had the privilege of knowing Bertha, the wealthy family she worked for fell in love with her immediately (what’s not to love?). Soon thereafter, Bertha started a family of her own and drew on her remarkable maternal character in the raising of her four beautiful children. She brought her family to Saint Louis, MO before eventually settling in Long Beach, CA, where she worked in a textile factory for over 20 years. In the latter part of Bertha’s bright and fulfilling life, she loved listening to Juan Gabriel, telling stories, going out to eat and playing BINGO with her brothers and sisters, and, of course, spoiling her precious grandchildren. Bertha was as fearless and strong-willed as they come. Doctors marveled at her vibrant spirit and resilience in the face of near impossible odds. She fought with everything she had up to her very last breath, but God longed for her company. Bertha graciously accepted the Lord’s call as He ushered her into paradise, where she was reunited with her beloved son, Alberto. Bertha’s inspiring work ethic and determination as a laborer and provider were matched only by the warmth, commitment and compassion she displayed as a single mother and matriarch of her loving family. Her strength, courage, purpose and fierce, unconditional love live on through her beloved children, Rosita, Santiago and Nilsa, her twelve cherished grandchildren and great granddaughter.
