Listen to Obituary

Edward "Eddie" Joseph Herrera, 84, died Saturday, August 24, 2024, at his home in Aguanga, CA with his family by his side. Eddie was born May 21, 1940, in Los Angeles County in an ambulance going to the hospital, to Rafael and Helen Herrera. He was raised and lived in San Pedro. Although he was not able to graduate with his high school class in 1958, he was very proud that he returned to school to complete the credits needed to receive his diploma in 1987. On January 27, 1962, Eddie married Jacqueline "Jackie' Beique. They celebrated 62 years of marriage and were blessed to have six children. They moved from San Pedro to Torrance in 1973. Eddie enjoyed many interests with his family and friends, camping, cycling, lake and deep-sea fishing, deer, and dove hunting. He was a member of the Torrance Moose Lodge and the B.I.R.D.'s model airplane club. Eddie built a model of the first plane flown by the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk, NC in 1903. It is displayed in the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum in Compton. Eddie had several jobs throughout his life: taxi driver, auto mechanic, commercial fisherman, airplane structural assembler, shipwright and for the last 37 years before retirement a boilermaker for Redman Equipment and Manufacturing. He could fix anything. I never had to call a repairman- "Eddie fixed it". I believe Eddie was most proud of, other than his family, the southwestern style home he was able to build, in Aguanga, with his family and friends. Eddie is survived by his wife Jackie and their six children Ralph (Tracy), Elaine, Robert, Christina, David, and Stephanie, eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Marshall and Efren.
