Listen to Obituary

Verge Ivory was born to John C. Ivory and Effie Mae Ivory on October 23, 1923 in Homer, Louisiana. Verge attended Bama elementary school in Homer Louisiana. He came to learn and study the truth of God’s word and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on June 15, 1938 in Louisiana. Verge and his family moved from Homer Louisiana to Oakland California in 1945. Although having only a fourth-grade education and working very hard on a farm with his parents, he learned style writing, becoming skillful in portrait painting and creative art which was used for some of the assemblies. Verge and his family moved to Los Angeles in 1949 where he was a member of the Athens Congregation of Los Angeles, now the El Segundo Congregation. While a member of the Athens Congregation he met, and married Anna LaRose on July 21, 1984. During their 35-year marriage, both shared in the regular pioneer ministry together and from time to time, as health permitted, as auxiliary pioneers. Those who knew Verge remember him for his artmaking skills, gentle personality, a keen sense of humor, and his love for his family and friends in the congregation. He was always conscience of his need to dress as a minister representing the Good news of God’s Kingdom. He loved to talk about the Bible and share his favorite scripture, Revelation 21:3,4 that provides hope for those who had died. Verge Ivory passed away in death August 25,2019. Verge was preceded in death by his sister, Johnethel Stoval, and brothers, Pretense Ivory, Daniel Ivory, Freddy Moore, and John Moore Jr.. Verge leaves to cherish his wife, Anna Ivory; his nieces Billye, Debra Sharon, Terry Moore, Renee Moore, and Shawntae; and nephews Curtis Stovall, Norman Stovall, Prentis Jr. and Roland Ivory. He also leaves a host of family members and a whole worldwide association of brothers and sisters. We look forward to seeing Verge Ivory in God’s new world.
