Michael Johnson Obituary

Michael Hue Johnson was born on May 2, 1967 in Los Angeles, California to the late Walter Willis Johnson and Laura Bergeron Johnson. Born and raised in Compton, California, Michael was a loving man, father, brother and friend. Michael was the fourth of five children. Michael had a positive attitude, an infectious smile and personality.

During Michael’s grade school years, he attended Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, Willowbrook Junior High School and Centennial High School. Michael was a great student and made good grades and was always noted for his great penmanship. Michael’s favorite sport was baseball where he acquired his nickname Lefty. He was a left-handed pitcher who literally struck out batters one by one. He also loved football as well as basketball. Michael enjoyed both playing and watching sports. His favorite team was the 1999-2000 Los Angeles Lakers.

Michael committed himself to a career in Health Care Services. He was employed by Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) for 18 years. He started as a Unit Assistant and was later promoted to a Care Partner in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). With a heart as genuine as Michael’s no doubt his co-workers adored him. He was a hard worker and gave meticulous attention to detail.

Michael loved cars and fixing them up. No matter what make or model, he always found a way to beautify them. It was not uncommon to see him waxing his car or cleaning his rims with even a Q-tip. He loved spending time with his family, especially his two youngest daughters, Alyssa and Savanna. He enjoyed taking them to the movies or simply just being with them.

Michael leaves to cherish his memory, his (3) daughters, Ashley Marie Johnson, Savanna Vivianna Hernandez, and Alyssa Marie Johnson; (4) siblings, his brother Lyle Leong, Sr., his sister Lou Bergeron Leong, his brother Victor Eric Johnson and his sister Michelle Yvette Johnson-Campbell ; First cousins, Ava, Julie, Debra and Rebecca; second cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews, great niece; and a large number of other relatives and extended family, a host of friends, homies and acquaintances.
